MEDICAL TREATMENTS OF HYPERHIDROSIS:
The great number of the medical treatments classically suggested for the hyperhidrosis
do nothing but testify to the difficulty in obtaining satisfactory results for the patient.
They are primarily represented by:
Local Antiperspirants :
- metal salts
- formaldehyde
- Local anticholinergic.
Even if theoretical studies
undertaken at normal people proves the real antiperspirant action of these products, those are completely inadequate
to solve the problem of the hyperhidrosis, because their duration of action is short and their effect is limited by volume
of sweat to control. In addition being especially used for the armpits, they seem even less effective against the
palmo-plantar hyperhidrosis.
THE BOTULINIC TOXIN :
It is effective, unfortunately, it requires very painful local injections; its duration
of action is limited to a few months; its very high cost is not dealt with by the social security. The long-term effects are not
evaluated yet, in particular on the immunological level.
THE SURGICAL SYMPATHECTOMIE :
It was regarded a long time as the only effective method of treatment of the palmar
hyperhidrosis. The techniques used as multiple as are discussed. So in general the surgeons estimate themselves satisfied with
the sympathectomy, regarding the results as goods, the side effects or complications lead the users to express reservations in
more than 50% of the cases. The principal problem being the compensatory sweating as well by its incidence as by its
severity.
IONTOPHORESIS :
Effective, not very expensive, known since a score of years, it is the treatment of
reference of the hyperhidrosis resistant to the local treatments. Its effectiveness requires sessions of maintenance which can be
carried out in residence. It is the treatment of choice of the hyperhidrosis which must be undertaken before all the others, by
respecting a rigorous methodology and by using reliable apparatuses, independent of the main and whose effectiveness was shown by
serious clinical studies. |
